The Hannya Carpenter is a recurring enemy in the Ganbare Goemon. He is a member of the dreaded Hannya Clan and attacks by throwing bouncing hammers.

The Legend of the Mystical Ninja[]
A member of the dreaded Hannya Clan of thieves, counterfeiters and kidnappers, and the main antagonistic faction in The Legend of the Mystical Ninja. Proper to the name of their criminal organization, their warriors wear traditional Japanese hannya masks (designed as a horned demon with an eerie grin). They captured and imprisoned the ruler of Edo, Lord Yuki, and his daughter, Princess Yuki. The clan is led by the evil Hannya Shogun, who then took the guise of Lord Yuki to allow his men to conduct all sorts of illegal activities without raising suspicion.
Hannya Carpenters are encountered in Warlock Zone VIII: Save Princess, both in the town and the action area sections; and their behavior varies slightly between these two types of environments.
In the town section, Hannya Carpenters pace briefly around and then throw a hammer at the player. This will keep on bouncing for a short time, doing so slowly but still homing toward the player. As such, these enemies can become quite irritating in these areas, as the player may inadvertently make more of them to spawn while still trying to fend off the first ones.
In the 2D side-scrolling section, Hannya Carpenters also attack by throwing hammers, but these will keep on bouncing forward for a moment until they either vanish or exit the screen, doing so by tracing a big arc at the beginning under which the player can move to avoid them. In some instances, Hannya Carpenters can be found quickly positioning themselves on a lower platform and start throwing their hammers from that vantage position. In these cases, using Bombs is recommended, as they're the only weapons in the player's arsenal that can hit enemies below them. Jutsus such as No.2 ("Attack") or No.4 ("Invincible") can also be cast to instantly deal with them.
Hannya Carpenters can also be encountered climbing up wooden beams which the player must step onto to make it across. Once a Hannya Carpenter reaches the top of the beam he was climbing on, he'll start jumping from one to another. As such, the player should either hit them while they're still climbing up, make haste in jumping from beam to beam before the Hannya Carpenters can make it to the top, or simply cast an adequate Jutsu to alleviate the whole ordeal.
