The Lantern Man (提灯魔人 Chōchin Majin?, lit. "Lantern Devil") is a boss in the Ganbare Goemon series. He is a demon who carries a large display full of living lanterns. He first appeared as the second boss in The Legend of the Mystical Ninja, and later in Ganbare Goemon: Tōkai Dōchū Ōedo Tengu ri Kaeshi no Maki as sixth boss.

The Legend of the Mystical NinjaEdit

Following Koban's trail, Goemon and Ebisumaru arrive to Shikoku Island, where they find that members of a clan called the Hyotoko have taken control of the town and have even set up a carnival that night. Suspecting something's not right, the heroes enter the main carnival's tent only to discover Koban being held prisoner inside. The Lantern Man, leader of the Hyotoko, enters the scene at that moment and after saying some threats proceeds to attack them.

The Lantern Man is a gigantic and armless humanoid demon who carries an equally enormous display full of hanging Japanese lanterns. These lanterns actually happen to be minions under his command, which will start attacking as the battle progresses.

The white lanterns remain in place and turn around every once in a while in order to shoot projectiles. Once all of them have been defeated, the second phase of the battle begins, where the red ones start attacking and can in turn also be damaged. These start moving about the display and the minions inside keep peeking out to shoot fireballs; they are also more resilient. The boss's weak point is his head, with the lanterns not being mandatory to be destroyed, although doing so certainly makes the task easier.

The Lantern Man himself only attacks by jumping around in an attempt to land on the player or to inflict coincidental damage by making the lanterns to bump on the player as he lands.

Ganbare Goemon: Tōkai Dōchū Ōedo Tengu ri Kaeshi no MakiEdit

The Lantern Man returns one more time revived by Admiral Peruri.
